Science
(F to Year 10 + State Senior Science)
The Australian Science curriculum is organised around three interconnected strands:
- Science Understanding (Biological, Chemical, Physical, and Earth & Space sciences)
- Science as a Human Endeavour
- Science Inquiry Skills
Typical progression:
- Foundation–Year 2: Exploring living things, weather, and everyday materials
- Years 3–6: Properties of matter, forces, ecosystems, and Earth’s resources
- Years 7–10: Cells, atoms, energy, genetics, and chemical reactions
- Years 11–12: Specialist Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth & Environmental Science (state-specific)
Math
Mathematics (F to Year 10 + Senior Maths)
- Foundation–Year 2: Number recognition, counting, basic addition and subtraction, shapes, and simple measurement
- Years 3–6: Multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, area, volume, and introduction to data
- Years 7–10: Algebra, linear equations, geometry, statistics, probability, and financial mathematics
- Years 11–12: Mathematical Methods, Specialist Mathematics, General Mathematics, and Essential Mathematics (varies by state)
English
(F to Year 10)
The Australian English curriculum is built around three interconnected strands:
- Language – understanding how English works (grammar, vocabulary, spelling)
- Literature – responding to and creating literary texts
- Literacy – applying language and literature skills across all subjects
Emphasis is placed on reading comprehension, analytical writing, oral communication, and the study of Australian literature alongside a range of world texts.
